Two Arrested in Tripura Following Violent Clash Involving BJP Workers: Tensions Rise Ahead of Local Elections

Agartala, July 28, 2025 — What began as a routine political campaign in the heart of Tripura quickly spiraled into a disturbing episode of violence this weekend, once again casting a shadow over the state’s volatile political landscape. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a brutal attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in West Tripura district, according to police officials who are continuing their investigation into the politically charged assault.

The altercation took place in the Narsingarh area, a locality not unfamiliar with political tension, especially in the lead-up to local elections. Eyewitnesses reported an atmosphere of simmering unrest throughout the day, which turned into an outburst of physical aggression late Saturday evening. A small group of BJP workers, reportedly returning from a local party meeting, were suddenly ambushed by assailants wielding sticks and rods. The attackers, believed to be affiliated with a rival political faction, allegedly hurled verbal abuses before launching the violent assault.

Several BJP supporters were injured, and one was rushed to the hospital with head injuries that required stitches. The incident not only left victims physically battered but also ignited renewed political friction in an already polarized environment.
