Porbandar Community Outraged After Brutal Assault on 16-Year-Old: Calls Grow for Swift Justice and Stronger Protections

A shocking incident has unsettled the city of Porbandar in Gujarat after a 16-year-old girl was reportedly subjected to a brutal gangrape by four young men on July 22, 2025. According to authorities, the victim was acquainted with one of the accused, Jayraj. On the day of the incident, the four youth approached the teenager under the pretense of taking her to a restaurant. Instead, she was driven to a secluded party plot in their car. There, the group allegedly offered her a drink laced with intoxicants, rendering her defenseless. Taking advantage of her impaired state, three of the accused — Jayraj, Malhar, and Raju — sexually assaulted her inside a room at the party plot, while the fourth, Meru, actively assisted them throughout the ordeal.

What makes the crime even more horrifying is the level of cruelty reported; as per the First Information Report filed, the accused did not stop at sexual violence but inflicted burn injuries on the minor using a cigarette, compounding the trauma she suffered. After the assault, the perpetrators dropped the traumatized girl back at her residence.

The case was swiftly registered at the Udyognagar police station in Porbandar on July 24, as soon as the grim details came to light. Within hours, two of the accused, Malhar and Meru, were apprehended by the police. Efforts to trace and arrest the remaining accused are currently underway, as law enforcement teams work intensively, scouring for evidence and gathering critical information from CCTV footage and witness statements.
